I always assumed a bit of a red neck was just part of shaving. Then I got a safety razor from Mühle, a German maker from Stützengrün that has been making shaving gear for a long time, and I found out it was the razor.
A double-edge razor holds one flat blade, the classic kind, and you replace it for pennies. There's no pivoting head, so the angle is on you. The first week I was careful and a bit slow. Then the angle clicked: short strokes, no pressure, let the weight do it.
What surprised me is how it changed the shave itself. It's slower. It's more deliberate. I lather with a brush, I take my time, and my skin is calmer after than it ever was with the cartridge thing. It has become a small ritual, and I did not expect to care about that.
I’m leaving the model out here. This is a note about how shaving changed for me.
