GridPlus Lattice1

The hardware wallet that finally let me read what I sign, on a screen big enough to actually read it.

Maker: gridplus.io

What I use it for
  • Signing MetaMask transactions on the big screen
  • Keeping keys off the laptop
  • Backups on SafeCards instead of paper
  • Switching wallets by swapping a card
Screen
5-inch touchscreen
Keys
Secure enclave, plus PIN-protected SafeCards
Connection
Sits on the home network and pairs with desktop wallets
Backups
SafeCards hold keys and double as spare wallets

I've been around blockchain since the early days, and for most of that time signing on a hardware wallet meant squinting at a tiny screen and scrolling through a hash I could not read anyway. You pressed confirm because the desktop said it was fine. That always bothered me.

The Lattice1 fixes that in the most obvious way: a 5-inch touchscreen. It sits on my home network, so when MetaMask on the laptop wants a signature, the request shows up on the Lattice with transaction details on a screen I can read. I read it, then I tap. The larger display makes that check less awkward.

The keys live in a secure enclave and on SafeCards, which are PIN-protected smart cards. One card is my backup and sits somewhere safe. Another one is a separate wallet, and swapping cards swaps the wallet. No seed phrase on a bit of paper in a drawer. I like that more than I expected to.

It's a chunky thing and it wants a permanent spot on the desk. Fine by me.
